Job Description

The GIS and Database Administrator will be responsible for managing the geospatial databases (drilling, sampling, etc.), GIS information, and technical documents for the Group. In this regard, the role should extract, analyse, interpret, and manage cross-disciplinary technical data to produce accurate and effective plans, maps, tables, datasets, etc., in line with operational, strategic, and stakeholder standards.

The role will furthermore be required to ensure effective information systems administration through advising on, maintaining, and implementing appropriate systems, standard operating procedures (“SOPs”), QAQC, validation, ensuring data and information integrity, and database security. The incumbent will also be required to assist with geological modelling and reporting as needed.

The incumbent is expected to travel to various sites in the Northern Cape from time to time.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or another mining/exploration discipline equivalent at NQF level 7.
  • Valid Driver's License

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the exploration or mining industry
  • Minimum 2 years’ database / GIS management experience and expertise
  • Competent with SQL scripting, database design and understanding of relational databases.
  • Experience with Quality Assurance Quality Control (“QAQC”) management
  • Familiarity with geological SQL data management software, preferably Datashed, but may include AcQuire, Geobank, or MS Access
  • Competent user of GIS software – preferably QGIS or ArcGIS
  • Competent user of a 3D modelling software – preferably Micromine or Leapfrog
  • Other beneficial data management tools - Advanced Excel, Python, Power BI
